Right from the start, this is a very interesting and informative book. Informative, because I am not one who knows much about the Amish people, so Mark’s first-hand descriptions of growing up Amish were not only fascinating, but helpful to understanding his story. I love his plain, honest way of speaking and his openness in questioning the faith he grew up with. But mostly I love the parts of the book where Mark really starts to look to Jesus and the Bible for all his answers, to the point that he was told: maybe you read the Bible too much. And that’s where this book can become somewhat of a devotional reading. As Mark’s journey brings him to look only to Jesus and to the Bible, I found myself many times, reflecting on whether I’m doing the same. I found An Amish Awakening to be a very engaging book, not just the story, but to think over in my own life. I recommend it!Product details

Fascinating and engaging. I truly enjoyed learning about the Amish culture while being inspired by the work of Jesus in one life amongst us.
I'm glad the Amish guy was liberated from his roots which bound him. However, I don't think his experience helps anyone else as far as hoping to get to Heaven, in fact, the scariness of it is detrimental. I'm not criticizing his call and what the Lord asked of him, only that everyone should read the scriptures for themselves and have the faith to follow the Holy Spirit and not to follow another person's experience. If this book helps one person to escape any kind of spiritual oppresion, it's worth it. There is liberty in Jesus Christ but so many people forfeit it preferring to follow man.
The wild time allowed Amish teenagers certainly is not scriptural. The Bible says to remember thy creator in thy youth.

Interesting. Not your typical Amish book. The true story of an Amish man, Mark Paul Troyer, who visits Heaven, and comes back to share what he has witnessed with other Amish and anyone who will listen to his story.
